Keeping It Casual | OOTD

Happy Fri-Yay! Today’s OOTD is quite simple and what I’d call, the epitome of casual style. Thanks to this for sponsoring this sweet shirt and for sponsoring this ultra cool hat!

It means throwing on a comfy pair of distressed boyfriend jeans, a loose button down with cute details, adding in your favorite pair of sneakers, and topping it off with a cool fedora hat. If I could wake up every morning and wear this same exact outfit, I would. It’s safe to say this will be one of my new go to looks for all things casual.

Leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite go to casual look is. Enjoy!

Ombré Faux Fur + Trouser Pant| OOTD

It went from hot to freezing in Houston and I’m happy about it because I can legitimately break out ALL of my faux furs!! This look is sooooo much fun all because of its unexpected elements.

First, lets talk about the elephant in the room, this ombre faux fur sponsored by! I can’t lie, when I got this jacket in the mail I immediately opened it and petted it for 10 minutes. Lol It is so cozy and eye catching. This coat is for the bold, fearless, edgy woman. Just get one and think about it later! You wont regret it. Ha Ha!

I found this shameless “So Damn Magical” graphic tee at Beehive Houston. I went to a shopping event there not long ago. Not only did I have a great time, I found these cool pieces and got to hang out with amazing people. A simply worded tee with a loose fit but feminine light pink lettering is so perfect for my life. I’m not huge into pink but the symbolism in these words written in this color just did something for me.

As soon as I put my first leg into these pants I knew they’d be a perfect fit. The have a high rise, cool slits on either leg, and beautiful front seam details. What more could a girl ask for?

If you haven’t gotten a chance to visit the store in Rice Village go check it out. It is such a cute place to shop with pretty great prices. If I can afford it on a teachers salary than anyone can. Lol

Leave me a comment and tell me what you think about this look, enjoy!

Natural Hair | Pompadour

I get a lot of questions about how long my hair is right now and if I feel like I have enough versatility with this haircut. Although I am somewhat limited in my style choices I am being forced to be more creative with styling my hair lately.

Honestly, this length is a tiny bit awkward because it’s long enough to flop down when curly and wet, but it doesn’t look cute. Ha Ha! I’ve had success with pin & tuck styles, braids, and twist outs. Now I’m adding this pompadour to the mix. This style is even easier than the pin and tuck style I posted last week.

  1. First, I used a blow dryer to stretch my hair out. As you can see I didn’t focus on the ends very much because the roots were more important.
  2. Second, I took a small section out of the front and put the rest in a ponytail toward the front of my head.
  3. Next, I took the hair that I left out in the front, placed it over the ends on my ponytail and smoothed it out.
  4. Lastly, I tucked and pinned the ends and Viola! The pompadour is complete.

I hope you like this style and I will be adding more styles to the blog as i make them up. Let me know if you have questions about this this or any other natural hair style and I’ll get them answered quickly. Enjoy!

How to Style a Slouchy Tunic | OOTD

No matter how much you love getting dressed up, there will always be a day when a slouchy tunic makes you feel good. It’s loose, comfy, light weight, and cozy at the same time. Luckily, my friends over at The Mint Julep Boutique sponsored this olive green Slouchy Dolman Tunic for me and I will be helping you with simple ideas on how you can style it effortlessly.

As a basis for this look, my Dolman Tunic will be paired with boyfriend jeans and booties for each look. First up, you can style this top with a cool hat. This takes minimal effort yet looks so pulled together.

Another option is to pair it with a puffy vest. This gives you some added warmth, dimension and color contrast.

Lastly, you can wear it as is, grab a pair of sunglasses and head out of the door. There’s nothing wrong with simplicity.

Natural Hair | Tuck & Pin Style

I have had my box braids out for a while now and because of the length of my hair I have had to become very creative with my hair styles. It is sort of an awkward stage when it’s not long enough for some things and not short enough to just leave it alone and wear it as is.

I would classify this look as a tuck & pin style. Tuck & pins are great for any hair length and every hair stays put because of all of the bobby pins you’ll use. To begin, I blew my hair out with my blowdryer.  After it was stretched, I began at the very front in the center of my hair with a light braid/twist. Once each braid/twist is done, secure it with a bobby pin. Start on the right, twist and pin to the opposite side. Then move to the opposite side of your head and repeat. Continue this pattern until you reach the desired place you’d like to stop. Then use the same left to right pattern to braid out the remaining hair. Tuck it under and secure it with a bobby pin. It takes less than five minutes to do and people won’t believe that you did it yourself.

Leave me a comment about your favorite tuck & pin style. Enjoy!

Embroidered Floral Dress | OOTD

Zaful Review: Just wearing this beautiful embroidered dress sponsored by makes my spirits bright! This is a wonderful example of the feminine touch that I love. The gathered structure is light and it moves well with you. Not to mention it will hide any food babies that may arise in the next week or so.

I also like the versatility of this dress. It can be worn as is, as a tunic with leggings, and ever layered with a jacket. I can see this being a dress to put on repeat during this holiday season.

Leave me a comment about your versatile piece for fall. Plus is having a a major sale right now. Click this link to enter, Enjoy!

Off the Shoulder Bodysuit | OOTD

Don’t be so quick to store your off the should tops. Living in Houston we know an unseasonably hot day is just around the corner.

A great way to help your summer tops transition to fall is by styling the look with a blazer, vest or sweater. sponsored this soft, off the shoulder body suit that I love to wear with jeans. I think I’ll be a bit chilly at times so I paired it with a charcoal gray blazer that I thrifted for under $5 and it definitely completes this look. To cozy this look up even more I chose my Preston booties from Coach.

It took me just a few minutes to put this look together because of all the black and gray tones. They just mesh so well together. Leave me a comment about how you plan to style your off the shoulder tops well into fall. Enjoy!

Faux Leather Skirt | OOTD

This is one of my favorite fall looks so far! For me, this OOTD has the variations of traditional fall colors, a fun hat, and a bit of unexpected flair.

Honestly, bringing so many colors together in one look when you LOVE black is not easy but it can be done. My cool army green faux leather skirt is sponsored by It passes the mom test (you can chase your kid with out showing too much skin) and is so comfortable. I pulled out my Natural+Wild+Free comfy tee to keep the look super casual. Layering it with my trusty faux leather jacket that I’ve had for the last 5+ years  helps to tie in the black from my converse. The cherry on top is this AMAZING Phoebe hat from Jaimie Slye. This hat really brings this great look to life! Lets not forget that this hat is crushable/packable and made in the USA. Meaning it’s toddler proof! Need I say more?

Leave me a comment about your favorite way to incorporate multiple fall colors into one look. Enjoy!

Green with Travel Envy | OOTD

Holiday season means travel season too! Most of us will be doing traveling of some sort over the next few months so why not look fashion forward at the same time? The good news is you can, EASILY!

My peeps over at sponsored this beautiful matching sweater and skirt set that will make traveling in style a breeze. When it comes to travel, having a matching set takes the guess work out of the age old question, “what do I wear?” The “ripped” look of this set adds a lot of interest for my folks that refuse to wear boring clothes. I layered a thin tan blazer sponsored by  over this set to compliment the green color and keep the airport/airplane chill away. Comfy shoes are a must for running to your gate so my Chucks were an easy choice. Grab your carry on bag and you’re ready to look like a true fashionista while hitting the road.

Leave me a comment and tell me about you favorite travel attire. Enjoy!

Shades of Gray | OOTD

I found this crazy soft faux suede tee dress at WildBloom boutique in Rice Village and it will be on repeat. It’s so comfortable I could literally sleep in it. I’m always on the hunt for things to wear that make my life easy. Getting this dress was a no brainer. It’s a wonderful shade of gray and can easily be dressed up a bit with cool booties and accessories, or more casual with a pair of sneakers and minimal jewelry. Speaking of booties, lets let these wrap around double buckle booties have their own moment! Aren’t they beautiful!?!

This combo is an awesome way to do fall in Houston. Finally cool enough for booties but still warm enough to show some legs! Enjoy!

How to Style a Statement Piece

We have all found that stand out piece before, purchased it, took it home with a smile on our faces, and each and every time we attempt to wear it, it just doesn’t look right. We know it’s not the piece because we still love it! The problem is most likely what we paired with the piece. Here are some tips to help you make a real statement!

The biggest question is, “What do I wear with it?” Most likely your stand out jewelry is either large, brightly colored, longer than unusual, or even intricately made. To help it do its job your clothing should be simple in style and color. Anything that competes for attention with the statement piece has to be removed! Solid colors with classic designs are the way to go. Ruffles, sequins, along with other bells and whistles just distract from what you really want to show off. I even took off my earrings so that this necklace shines.

Even your make up can be a distraction if it isn’t done right. Keep it simple and try a complimentary lip color (As I styled here) to make the look feel cohesive.

Now go out into the world, get those amazing  pieces and make a statement! Enjoy!

Navy Floral Maxi | OOTD

Thanks for sponsoring this sweet fall floral print maxi dress. This is as close to the perfect fall maxi dress as you will get. The dark navy color is just right for Fall and the white flowers are the perfect pop. What’s really cool about this dress is that it comes with the beautiful pearl belt. This would be a great dress for weddings this season. Plus, it has such great movement that you will just want to twirl around in it the whole time. Leave me a comment and tell me your favorite part about this floral maxi. Enjoy!

Fringed Sweater Dress | OOTD

This fringed sweater dress sponsored by is perfect for those days when you want something easy, yet interesting to wear for a day out. This dress is so soft and comfortable to move around in. The tassels add such a cool statement to an otherwise basic sweater dress.

Having the right shoe or boot can sometimes make or break a look. Since this dress is so simple, I paired it with my black lace up over the knee books that really make a statement. This dress could just as easily be paired with leggings and sneakers for a dressed down casual look. Mirrored cat eye sunnies, black tote bag, a bun and I’m almost done. Lastly, add in cool earrings and a bold lip if you’re feeling adventurous. I love outfits that look really pulled together but are really no brainers. This OOTD took minimal effort but packs a mean punch.

Leave me a comment about you style ideas for the neat little number, enjoy!

Color Blocked Maxi Dress| OOTD

Talk about love at first sight! was kind enough to send me this incredibly chic and comfy maxi dress to review for you. I have nothing but praises to sing about this dress. The details are on point with a nice collar, buttons, two splits, rich color blocking and front detail.

When I wear a dress my major concern is, “Can I chase and pick up my three old son without revealing my entire backside.” Not only could I do that but I could also go to the buffet and not worry about my “food baby” showing after I’ve eaten too much. Ha ha!

The sizing runs a bit large. I’m wearing an extra small and I still have plenty of room in this dress. Leave me a comment about your favorite look to chase your kiddos in, enjoy!

Fall Floral | OOTD

Lately the thrifting gods have been on my side! I thrifted this AMAZING dark floral print midi skirt just in time for fall and it only cost me $7.

I could see the bold print from a mile away and I was attracted to it like a magnet. When I started putting this look together I kept fall in mind by pairing a dark colored top and motorcycle jacket.

Having staple pieces in your wardrobe is essential because it helped me bring this “pricey looking” OOTD together for $7. They only thing I actually purchased was the skirt. I already had my black button down, heels, moto jacket, and my sunnies. Now that what I call looking fab for less.

Leave me a comment and tell me about your thrifting adventures. Enjoy!

Gingham Pixie Pants | OOTD

Have you ever had a pair of pants you love so much that you would try to pair them with just about anything? Yep, me too! For me right now its my Old Navy gingham pixie pants. They are so comfortable and can be dressed up or down easily. I’ve worn them with t-shirts, button downs, blouses, you name it! For this look I chose a textured gray long sleeve top that I fell in love with while I was in Europe during the summer. Leave me a comment about what pants you currently have on repeat. Enjoy!

Spice Up Your T-Shirt

Most of us have what seems like thousands of basic t-shirts. They function as is but sometimes you may feel the urge to do a little bit more with them. When the feeling hits you, go for easy layering. It will give your basic tee new life and give you several new looks.

Most of you know I practically live in Old Navy so this ENTIRE look is from there. I chose a thin olive green button down shirt to layer underneath my relaxed fit striped tee. Add in a pair of black rockstar jeans and chucks and now my tee looks #neverbasic.

This is also perfect for people like me who get cold very easily. I’ll be layering up as soon as Houston cools down. How would you layer a basic tee to give it new life? Leave me a comment, I’d love to hear. Enjoy!

Lady in Red | OOTD

The jumper in this OOTD was sponsored by so that I can bring you a honest review on some of their pieces.

This entire look has me seeing red! Not really but I sure was happy to be dressed in red from my lips to my shoes. For some reason wearing so much red makes me feel like this would be a great holiday look.

When it comes to quality of the jumper I think it has a great fit, however, I think the weight of the fabric is a bit too light. I know it’s crazy hot in Houston but if the fabric was a bit heavier, it would provide a more rigid structure to the jumper. It would also make this piece look way more expensive. I got a medium because I was worried about it being too small but I can admit that a size small would have given a snugger fit.

Leave me a comment if you like this look, enjoy!

Ruffled Hem | OOTD

The dress in this OOTD was sponsored by so that I can bring you a honest review on some of their pieces.

I love a simple piece that I can make edgy casual or understated with feminine flare. This ruffled hem dress really does that for me. It doesn’t hurt that its in my favorite colors and the fabric is breathable but not too thin. I like the oversized fit because it doesn’t cling to me. When its really warm and humid outside thats the last thing you want as you move about your day. I got a size extra small and its still very oversized. I would say it runs big, so order one size smaller that what you normally wear.

I wanted to make this look casual yet edgy so I went for a dark lip, Nike hat and Nike sneakers. Lastly a gold necklace to balance everything out. Leave me a comment about how you would style this cool dress. I’d really love to hear it! Enjoy!

Cozy On The Go | OOTD

The casual gray jumpsuit in this OOTD was sponsored by so that I can bring you a honest review on some of their pieces.

Sometimes you just need that one thing that doesn’t wrinkle easily and is beyond comfortable to throw on quickly. (Like everyday, ha ha!) This jumper is a no brainer for those days. It can be worn alone or layered with a jacket or sweater like I’ve styled here. Sneakers and sandals look great with it and you’ll be out of the door in minutes. Need I say more?!?!

The quality of this jumper is surprisingly good. I ordered a medium because I don’t like things to fit too tightly and this was perfect. I would say it runs a bit small so order at least one size bigger than what you would normally wear. As far as texture, it is very soft and sort of thick. It will be perfect if it ever cools down in Houston but it is a little too warm to wear comfortably right now.

Leave me a comment about your favorite “on the go” outfit, enjoy!
